Mmmm Popscicles! Not!

This could be a messy one! It also takes a bit of forthought. This would be a fun activity to do outside during the summer with the hose or baby pool near by! But then again, wouldn’t everything be better outside in the warm sunshine! But in the mean time we can’t just sit around and do nothing, so get out some newspapers and rags and you should be ok.
So a few days before you want to actually do this activity you need to get out 1 or 2 ice cube trays that you don’t mind parting with if they get stained. Get out some liquid tempra in a few colors and fill each cube 1/3 full with some tempra. Cover the tray tightly and insert popscicle sticks (craft sticks) into each cube. The foil will hold the stick up right while the paint freezes. Now, put the tray in your freezer. After that layer is frozen, maybe 2-3 hrs, remove foil and add another layer of paint. Be sure to alternate the colors as you layer them so not all of the popscicles are the same. Return to freezer and again wait a few hours and finally add the last layer of paint and return to the freezer. Let this get nice and frozen! When you are ready to paint with your frozen paint popscicles, hold your hand around the cube you want to remove to warm it up enough to pull it out of the tray. Shiny fingerpaint paper or freezer paper works the best with this activity. Keep the tray in the freezer until you are ready for another popscicle.

The amount of messiness to this activity depends on your kids sensory needs. Some may just hold the stick and paint a picture while others, like mine for example, have to turn everything into a fingerpainting, arm painting mess. Good luck.
