Save the Eggs!!
Continuing with the egg theme we tried egg tempra painting today. I remember doing this when I was a preschool teacher. At the Center we had powder tempra paint which is the ideal thing to use but in the case you don’t have that-crush chalk.

Then to each teaspoon of chalk add 2 t. of egg yolk

Then add 1 t. water. And that would be what the recipe would say but because I am a tweaker I didn’t think it was thick enough so I added cornstarch until it was the desired consistency. We used small brushes and smaller pieces of shiney fingerpaint paper. It quickley turned into double fisted painting for Ginger.

Then folding

Then of course there is clean up!

I remember the paint being really glossy when it dried. Now it could be my grandiose memory failing me or the fact that I toyed with the recipe and added cornstarch. But the results were not all that immpressive. Don’t get me wrong, it gave us a greater appreciation for the squeeze bottles of paint that we use and of course the girls liked the science part of the crushing and mixing. How often do you get to use the mortar anyways? But in the end, my reccomendation is follow the recipe or save your eggs and pop the top of the store bought tempra.
This afternoon we got out in the sunshine and took a walk in the park.
all three of us were armed with digital cameras….But more on that tomorrow…………Hint, hint It will be Exciting!! So stay tuned.

Oh-thats a good idea. You wouldn’t want to eat chalk dust and raw egg yolks-double whammy!
