Spring means work. So today I dug in-literally. I spread 90lbs of compost and about 60 lbs. of manure and some organic fertilizer in our vegetable garden today. Then we planted cilantro, arugula, 2 different types of kale, mesclun mix, and 2 other types of lettuce. Off to a good start I would say!

This afternoon Molly and Ginger and Abby’s girls made some simple books to take on a quick hike today. We have been looking through these books and these and Molly had some ideas from these books but we didn’t have much time today.
So our quick books consisted of small brown lunch bags folded in half as the cover with a small slit cut into the back flap. The girls used these pockets for treasures. We punched holes and some used string while others used a pipecleaner to hold the books together.

The girls took their books on our hike and each found something to put into the pockets.



It was a great day not just for gardening but for climbing and hiking too!

We even came across a teepee in the woods.

I am hoping to get back to the two books mentioned above. They both have some neat ideas that we want to try. With days of sun and warm temperatures and all the spring work that needs to get done, along with the everyday stuff it seems to be difficult to do anything that takes too much time these days. But like everything else there is a season. Soon enough we will be able to be doing lots of messy stuff outside! Finally!
