Molly was sick this morning. She woke me up in the middle of the night to get in my bed with a headache. Let me state for the record that it is unusual that she would be getting in my bed because 5 or 6 nights out of 7 she starts the night off in my bed; along with Ginger and my husband and me and the 13yr old 80 some pound Rudy Dog. So to say our night is crowded and sometimes restless is an understatement. I am used to it and sleep like a rock most nights. But when the child lying next to me feels like a hot rock, I generally don’t sleep well! Much to her dismay she had to miss Circus this morning. She slept and watched TV on and off most of the morning. Ginger was worried about her and brought her a little something to cheer her up.
After some miso soup and a shower she felt well enough to attend her art class, so that meant a little chai and social time with Abby for me!
Earlier today HerAbleHands posted about kids helping with dinner. I added a comment stating my excuses for often saying, “No” when asked if my kids can help. I am not proud that this is often my first response. There is so much to learn and so much bonding and memorie making to be had I know I should embrace the opportunity more openly. But, the time factor and the mess factor usually get the better of me by the dinner hour. I have such fond memories of baking with my Nana and making homemade pasta with my Nanie. So, today with one boy working with his Dad and another sleeping, I was left with just one helper that would not need to fight with her sister over whose turn it would be to stir or pour.
Ginger helped make waffles and turkey bacon. She was delighted to have the one on one time and was a proud presenter of dinner! Let this be a lesson to me to not be so quick to crush their little dinner helping spirits.
And may we all get a healthy and restful nights sleep!!
One more thing–Blogger hates me. I can’t seem to get any of my several attempts at an account to work so that I can comment at your blogs. But I do read many of you!!!

My daughter has really pushed me with her insistence on helping. I’m so happy to have her in the kitchen most of the time now (unless we’re in a late hurry, then it’s challenging). She enjoys learning how to do something the way the big people do it and it’s amazing to watch her focus and determination. She’s like that helping with projects around the house, too. She’s been a great help with planting around here the last six weeks!

Maya loves to help in the kitchen. I think I killed the joy of it for Lena and Liberty by making it all about math, like the good homeschooling mommies are supposed to. I hate when that happens.

Maybe you could set aside one or two nights a week that the kids could help you cook. Cooking is such a bonding experience. I love when Luke is home and cooks with me.(He’s 24) He has such an eye for detail and likes adding the nice touches. I’m more just get the darn meal on the table, LOL.
