Love that last pic!! We tried to do a system of one helping cook dinner on alternate nights but it sort of flew out the door.

Kristen, I love what you did with the color in these pics!

Maybe you could set aside one or two nights a week that the kids could help you cook. Cooking is such a bonding experience. I love when Luke is home and cooks with me.(He’s 24) He has such an eye for detail and likes adding the nice touches. I’m more just get the darn meal on the table, LOL.

What if you gave them each turns at being the dinner helper? That way you could enjoy the one on one time with them, you could enjoy the cooking, and you could eliminate the fighting/bickering during the process between siblings. You could maybe let each child who wants to have one night a week that they help you. I bet they’d enjoy helping you plan what to make, etc. Just an idea.

OMG, your pictures keep getting fancier and fancier! I love them.

Maya loves to help in the kitchen. I think I killed the joy of it for Lena and Liberty by making it all about math, like the good homeschooling mommies are supposed to. I hate when that happens.

My kids won’t “help me” with anything. When they want to cook, they are the chefs (respectively) and I am the assistant. They are such prima donnas.

I would love for my son to help me more in the kitchen, I think that it could be a great learning experience for him. My kitchen is tiny though and the mess factor often causes me to say ‘no’ too. I should work on this because it is something which I want to share more often.

Kristen, such lovely photos! and story…

My daughter has really pushed me with her insistence on helping. I’m so happy to have her in the kitchen most of the time now (unless we’re in a late hurry, then it’s challenging). She enjoys learning how to do something the way the big people do it and it’s amazing to watch her focus and determination. She’s like that helping with projects around the house, too. She’s been a great help with planting around here the last six weeks!
