Exercising My Freedom of Speech.. (Or My Top Reasons To Vote For Obama)

I am talking politics not because anyone has asked me, but because I finally feel like politics are important. I finally see many issues as issues that directly affect mine and my families lives. I really feel like my vote counts. Last election when I was so sure that Kerry would win and he didn’t, It showed me that just my vote wasn’t enough. I felt like if only I did more maybe we would have won. And this Presidential race seems far more important to me four years later. I hear bloggers have power, especially mommy bloggers. So I am wielding some of that power and sharing my opinions to help get Obama and his lovely family into the Big White House. Pun intended.

I want my kids to be involved and see me involved in making a difference. I hear this is going to either be a blow out win for Obama or very close race, (because of the Republican VP pick.) Ohio could be a deciding factor in this race. Seeing that I am just beginning to feel passionate about politics and who our President should be, tells me other younger women may either feel their vote doesn’t really matter, nor does their involvement. If you really want Obama to win-you really need to get out and vote and get involved in encouraging others to get out and vote. This is a team effort.

I have only had one not so nice comment since I started blogging. I know I don’t write about anything too controversial either but just an FYI: If you choose to comment on anything I write beyond this line in this post that tries to draw me into some sort of debate-I won’t bite. These are my opinions-take them or leave them! So that said let my blogger power unleash- top reasons why YOU NEED TO VOTE FOR OBAMA:

1. To ensure yours and your daughters rites. I am pro life. For Me. I can’t make that decision for you. Why would you let the government?? I fear if Roe vs Wade is overturned, not only would a huge host of problems occur because unqualified people would think they could safely perform abortions, and if you think that the girls that are having abortions aren’t your kind of people so it doesn’t matter because you are pro life…think again. It would be your daughters, sisters and nieces and friends who are too young, too old, to shamed to have those babies that would be seeking out secret abortions. This also may pave they way for other laws being passed to infringe upon our rights. What’s good for the masses must be good for all-and the government with their rich and very one sided religious friends will decide this-if you vote those types that have those ties and those types of friends into office they will be making those types of choices for you!

2. The failing economy…Watch the new American Girl movie about Kit..it hits really close to home and makes me very frightened for our future. The cost of everything is increasing but not our paychecks. And especially not those working for minimum wage jobs. But the Republicans think we are in fine shape!

3. I want my kids to have the choice of going to college without having to mortgage my home and borrow from both of our parents. And that’s lucky for us that we have a home to mortgage and people to borrow from. But we probably would never get back out of that debt! And every year it will get worse if Obama doesn’t win.

4. I want affordable healthcare.

5. Global Warming is a real. I want alternative energy to be more accessible and a bigger part of our future.

6. I do not want a 72 year old man who is in remission for Cancer, (making these some compelling causes for him to possibly have to leave office) passing the Presidential responsibilities to a grossly inexperienced , under educated, admittedly inhaled, self proclaimed hockey Mom, of 5 children, one with downs syndrome and one pregnant to lead our country. Now the admittedly inhaled part I could care less about, but if that sways someones vote to Obama-great! ‘Cause I don’t think the just because she is pro-life, that should get her into the Big White House. And I think most pro-lifers look down upon drug use, DUI’s, pre marital sex, not staying home with your kids especially if one has medical and or behavioral issues. And on one other parental note-the whole flying home birth story makes no safe sense nor does the 17 year old pregnant girl marrying her 18 year old high school sweet heart. This may be like awe… but really it’s just a stupid presidential race decision. Don’t drag that poor boy into the race now too!!!!

This has taken me ALL morning to type-there are at least 10 more reasons why you should VOTE FOR OBAMA but I gotta go now!

  1. When are we having our car wash for Obama???

  2. Car wash for Obama? I’d come let you wash my car. Totally.

    Great post.

  3. Thought we were having a lemonade stand-logistically easier! We could do a soccer sat AM at Whetstone!!!

  4. Good on you!

  5. sounds like a Homeschoolers for Obama club is coalescing.

  6. You’re preaching to the choir, here! I thought you might like this link, it has a bunch of widgets you can add to your blog (mine has one now): http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/downloads

My 7 y.o. really really wants to work to get Obama elected–just trying to figure out the best way to channel her energies. Any ideas?

  7. Woo-hoo!!!!! I’m right there with you.

  8. GREAT post! This is such an important election, putting this on your blog is a great way to be pro-active!

    Crossing my fingers for Obama,
    Mama Llama

  9. i’m totally an obamamama! and i think mccain shot himself in the foot with his vp pick. no feminist in her right mind is going to change sides to vote for a wolf in sheep’s clothing (i hope)!

  10. I’m with you all of the way. I was absolutely appalled at McCain’s VP choice. She stands for everything that I dislike, suppression of reproductive rights, creationism in schools and anti-environmentalism. I’m seriously hoping that Obama is voted in as President. I think that international relations with other countries will definitely improve. In Britain, we’re still p*ssed off that Blair completely ignored the majority opinion within this country and entered into a conflict with Bush, of which the consequences are still being painfully felt today.

    Bravo at your post :-)

I love your blog, it is on my top ten list that I check every day. I can’t say that I agree with your political stance, but I really admire you taking a stance! So few are willing to do so these days.

Please edit your post to “protect your rights” typos like that cloud your message and negate your impact.

  12. Thanks Barbara
I’ll have my tech support add something!! We are going to have a lemonade stand and donate the money and/or a car wash.

  13. Thanks Dixon
I am a horrible speller and spell check doesn’t always catch those typos-wrong spelling choices!

  14. I live in Montgomery County, Ohio and have been working with the local field organizers to put together a “Mamas for Obama” group and scheduling special kid-friendly volunteer sessions for moms who would like to be involved in the campaign. My daughter is so excited about the campaign and our regular visits to the Obama offices. It’s important for our kids to see us actually involved in the things that we believe in.

I’m impressed with your commentary about abortion rights from a pro-life standpoint. Well said!

  16. Auroragold, it has been my experience that a great many people really fall in a similar philosophical place. The label “Pro-Life” is unnecessarily polarizing as it implies that anyone who acknowledges the existence of a choice in reproductive matters is “ANTI”-life. Ultimately, reproductive freedom is about choices. The question is, who will be empowered with the ability to make that choice. Are we going to entrust the women whose lives are directly involved with the ability to make their own choices? Or will we remove any choice from their hands and give that right to (let’s face it) a bunch of old white men who have no clue about the larger impact of pregnancy and childbirth on the lives of a woman and her family? I really believe that in a civil conversation, it is usually possible to find that common middle ground.

  17. Woo!! I’m with you all the way! We homeschooling mamas for Obama must get the information out there! It disgusts me that any woman, minority, working class person would vote for McSame/Palin.
