The Quiet And The Active

calling

I am feeling disconnected from this blog and the computer in general.  I don’t have the time or the energy to devote here these days.  My days seem so full just getting by.  Not much time for projects.  I am overwhelmed with the mess that is my house.  So my posts may be less frequent.  I can’t commit to 3 or 4 weekly projects, a recipe and photos.  I won’t fade away, but  may be spotty.

Last night, after a quick potluck, Abby and Dawn and I took the middle kids to Obama headquarters for a little volunteer work.  I love the confidence of these kids!  They walked right in ahead of us.

Heading to Work

The kids worked on posters.

Obama 2008

Abby and I made phone calls to people whose names we couldn’t pronounce, those that promptly hung up on us, those who pretended they couldn’t come to the phone, left countless scripted messages and even spoke to a few who not only promised a vote for Obama but also wanted to volunteer.  Really a humbling telemarketing experience!

Dawn did what she does so well…data entry.  She is a VERY fast typist.

The place was bustling with people coming in and out, meeting in the parking lot, making phone calls and being briefed on their jobs.  The later it got, the busier it became.   We talked about other ways we may volunteer in the coming weeks. It feels good to get involved, especially with our kids.  We all are learning more about the inner workings of the campaign.  And as we witnessed last night, every little bit helps!

[...] We hung out at Campaign for Change headquarters last night. Kristen has pictures here. [...]

That sounds much more fun than soccer practice, but not as fun as watching “Orgasmic Birth” *eyeroll*

Good for you for volunteering! And don’t worry about being spotty. Focus on what’s important. Blogland will be here whenever you want it.

I’m with you on the craziness around here now that school started again!

HI there — a long time commenter at Dawn’s, who grew up in Columubus.

I love your picture of the kids in from to the Obama head quarters. It’s a bit hard to explain, but it brings a few tears to every brown person’s eyes, to see those blonde heads turning to Obama.

your comment brought a tear to mine as well as Dawns eyes! I am so hopeful for so many reasons. I am so glad for our family to be a small part of this history!
