Hot Wax

The unplugged theme for this week is WAX.  This morning we plugged in our thrift store hot plate.

You can see we paid $1.91 for it a few years ago!  Next we covered it with foil-shiny side up.

We unrolled the paper off of our crayons and wrote, drew and colored on the hot foil.

The crayons melted and the colors mixed together to make some great pictures!

Be careful taking the foil off of the hot plate because the wax may be drippy and HOT!

  1. What a cool (hot?) idea! I wish I had a $1.99 hotplate. Time to start thrifting for hotplates!! I hope you are going to put a link to this on UPYK, it is a great “wax” project!

  2. This looks like a neat project!

  3. I have been keeping an eye peeled for a cheep used hot plate for just this reason! That looks like a heck of a lot of fun and I hope I find one soon.

Side note – apparently I lost your feed for a bit – looks like you had a great trip! I’m totally jealous.

  4. never heard of this before.. and you cant buy hotplates like that here in australia.. well not that I have ever seen.. looks like a great project..

  5. That looks like a lot of fun!

  6. This looks like a really neat project to try. I wonder if it would work to line a cookie sheet with foil and then heat it in the oven.
