Playing In Our Winter Wonderland

When we moved into our house five years ago, my Mom bought us a Christmas Village.  We have the perfect little spot to set up pur wintery scene. And my kids LOVE to play here. They literally play in the window for the three weeks or so the Christmas decorations are out.  But don’t let me mislead you into thinking it’s all a  wonderland here. While setting up our happy little town there was much crying, swearing, and idle threats of packing the whole damn thing back up and putting it back on the tip top shelf of the closet. We have a family full of opinions and strong personalities at our house.  Molly had her idea of the way the town would be set up and Ginger had her ideas.  Meanwhile I had some plans to make sure everyone could safely reach the skating rink and the cars and townsfolk could get around with out falling off the edge to their doom as so many had before. After much foot stomping and yelling, a compromise was met.

Over the years there have been many casualties. Some have been repaired and some not so lucky. The clock tower below is held together with scotch tape.

Last year, Ginger took scissors to the leashes to, ” Let the dogs run free!”

The tree house has seen better days too.

The town may be a little run down and in need of repairs but it’s a bustling, friendly place once it is all set up. We are even thinking about leaving it up and changing it with the seasons! Our minds are reeling with ideas for this one!!! Just wait and see.

  1. I remember growing up that my friend had this great nativity set that we weren’t allowed to play with and I always wanted to play with it. You’re a great mom for letting your kids play with the breakables!!!!

  2. I know Ruth and Warren had a great time playing with it the other night. Warren of course just liked crashing the cars into each other. I think I told you my big girls LOVE to play with the nativity scene I grew up with. They fight about who gets to go first, how much time. Fun stuff. You really are a “special” mom!

  3. Yes! Playing with breakables is the best. :)

  4. Nice winter scence. My kids love playing with our nativity scence. But yeah it gets boxed away and is only out for a couple weeks.

  5. Miss you girlfriend! I’ll be keeping my eye out now for something special for your little village. Hope to see you again soon.

  6. What a fantastic toy of the kids. Well I know it’s not really meant to be a toy but how could any child not want to play with it. I think the fact it has been well loved will create some strong and wonderful memories for your children in years to come.

  7. How cozy this looks! So Dickensville-ish. Even with all the crying, swearing, and idle threats :)

The “un-leashed” dogs, courtesy of Ginger, cracked me up!
