None of my 5 kids have ever done a summer camp or classes -- we are usually so very busy playing and exploring together, no time for running all over town to activities. I agree, undirected play is so very important, and it's wonderful to see what the kids come up with when left to their own devices outdoors. It's good for them :) This is a great post! None of my 5 kids have ever done a summer camp or classes — we are usually so very busy playing and exploring together, no time for running all over town to activities.

Such sweet memories! I want my kids to have the same sweet memories. I am the only one of my friends who's kids don't spend the entire summer in day camp. We go to the beach, on hikes, to the lakes, blow bubbles, go to matinees, have picnics, fly kites. Thanks for the book list! Definitely going to check some of them out.
