I have one question after I just tried my first batch of this: Is it supposed to dissolve? When I pulled my cloth bag out of the dryer, there was hardly any 'softener powder' left in it. It seemed to do a good job, but at this rate, won't last through 2 loads. Anybody else find the same thing? Please let me know. --Dawn

Is this homemade softener only for dryer?? I don't have a dryer, as we are able to hang our laundry out in the sun over here in M'sia. Can I pop pouch into my washing machine together with the laundry?

A very smart way of saving as well. While reading I realized that you adviced to used corn starch and as a commenter posted it is a thickening agent and it get me start thinking. I am very curious in how this will operate and so will be certainly trying it out.

I' m a bit surprised that this recipe calls for both arrowroot and cornstarch as they are both thickening agents. In cooking recipes that call for 1 teaspoon arrowroot you would substitute 1 Tablespoon of cornstarch. Since I don't have any arrowroot in the house right now I'm just going to try it with the corn starch....wish me luck.

The book is "Make your place by Raleigh Briggs" I have been wanting to try the fabric softener as we have gone without for years. I tried the all purpose laundry soap and I loved it.
