Neverending To Do Lists

Well, with out kids I can’t very well conduct great, crafty art projects can I? Molly is on a 2 day bender with 3 of her friends. Sleeping at one house last night and tonight they are all at Abby’s. With all this social time, she is sure to come home possessed. Ginger spent a good part of the afternoon playing at Abby’s too. I tried to talk Jake into being my guinea pig and doing a project with me but he suggested we play video games instead.

So I had to change my afternoon focus from a fun project to “work.” Which is not an easy thing for me. I am not a plan B person. But my work list is long and the clock is always ticking. It seems as I mark of #’s 5 , 6 and 7 on that list I replace them with #’s 21, 22, and 23.

Anyways, the tomatoes are in the ground as are the peppers and the herbs that I have bought so far; a couple of pineapple mints, 6 basil plants, 2 flat leaf parsley, 2 dill and 2 cilantro-because I can’t wait for the seedlings to get big enough for cutting. I still need some garlic chives, and to get my seeds planted.

I was also able to run to the market, wash and hang out couple loads of laundry and make a double batch of Veg Chili-one for my family and one for a friend who just had the most perfectly beautiful baby girl. As great as it feels to knock a few chores off my never ending list, I always wish I had more time to read those library books that are due tomorrow, or finish that dress I have been knitting for Ginger since last year or has it been two years now! I often have the mind set that I will get to my own art, crafts or enjoyment after the work is done—but the work will never be done. It really is never ending.

I have been toying with the idea of setting up a schedule for myself. That way there will be time set aside for certain things and a time limit for other things, namely the computer. It seems like a good idea, I have tried it before. I was able to stay on top of my housework making time for other things. But after a few weeks it felt so stringent. But finding ,more hours in the day probably isn’t going to happen so I should choose the method that works.

Tomorrow we have a field trip planned and friends coming over afterwards. There will be kids here that I can manipulate into doing a project for candy or some other treat.  That means I will have a purpose to my post tomorrow, not just senseless rambling!  I better get to bed so I can be in a calm state as I rush around vacuming, packing lunches, getting the supplies together for our project and delivering dinner to friends all by 10:00-uugghh!

Today we went on a field trip to a neighborhood yarn shop to learn about drop spindle and wheel spinning of different fibers.

First I must say that it is soooo very hard to just look and not spend any money when you go into yarn shops. Today was no exception. I found some camel mix that was heavenly. It was like puffy down in a beautiful pale pea green. It was also on sale so I might be going back for a purchase after all-but at least it won’t be an impulse buy!
The field trip was great too. We learned about all the different types of materials that can be spun; from dryer lint to dog fur to flax and buffalo. There was lots to touch and a wheel for us to check out.

A quick trip to the thrift store this evening netted a pair of pink suede sling back pumps and little pink sweater that I will wear to my nieces Bat Mitzvah tomorrow. Dressing up is NOT my thing but the pink heels from Spain make it a little more fun!
