Ear to Ear Kool-aid Smile

IMG_6161

I found 2 packs of Kool-aid in the way back of the cupboard today. I gave Ginger the choice of which flavor she wanted to make to drink and which she wanted to use to make Kool-aid playdough. I’ll give you a hint:

Black cherry for drinking and lemonade for playdough.

I decided to try and mix it up a bit and gave each girl a ball of playdough and sent them outside. None of the regular props we usually use.

They used sand from the sandbox and mixed it in.

They also pulled a snorkle mask out of the garage and put it on to make face prints in the plydough-goofy kids!!

Edible Playdough

To keep my kids busy this morning while I cleaned up the mess from yesterday, we made this:
blog 351

Edible Playdough

2 cups oats
2 cups Peanut Bitter-I used natural PB but stirred it up first
1 cup dry milk-cow or soy
1/3 cup honey

mix all together-I had to mess around with the consistancey so I added a bit of wet milk and a bit more honey. It may be because I used natural peanut butter.
blog 353

It was sooo tasty. Think no-bakes or granola bars! Keep in mind this was nowhere near as pliable as regular playdough-my kids still made taco’s and pancakes and cut it up with butter knives. And then they ate a whole lot of it!
We have an enamel table to work on, so clean up is easy. You can always put wax paper down to minimize the mess.
We used raisins, cranberries, sun drops, choc. chips, shredded coconut, slivered almonds, banana slices and shredded apples to decorate the creations. Some other things to use are celery sticks, wheat germ, crackers, dry cereal.

Disclaimer, Please Read!!!
1. This recipe contains Peanut butter-if you or your kids are allergic to peanuts don’t make it!
2. If your child is under 1 year-you probably shouldn’t let them play with this
3. This has honey in it-that means NO for kids under 1 yr old.
4. There is milk in this recipe-if there is a dairy allergy don’t use this-or replace with powder soy milk.

Happy Spring!!!!

Two For Tuesday

clay, syc circus show 2-08 021

This was an easy idea-Play Clay made with cornstarch. It felt similiar to homemade playdough but not as sticky. It did have a bit of a scent that my 3 year old kept saying, “That smells bad.” But it didn’t keep her from playing with it.clay, syc circus show 2-08 016

I love the color we chose to add-a greenish-blueclay, syc circus show 2-08 010

Ginger decided to wrap her “ski race” in foil and let it dry.clay, syc circus show 2-08 028

Incase you don’t have the recipe on the back of your cornstarch: I doubled this recipe and had to fiddle a bit to get it to the right consistency
1 cup salt
1/3 cup water
1/2 cup cornstarch
1/4 cup cold water
food coloring
mix salt and 1/3 cup water over med heat stirring occasionally-3 to 4 minutes
remove from heat; add cornstarch and 1/4 cup of water add food coloring. Mix. It will thicken as it cools. (I had to add more cornstarch at this point and put back on stove-it was not thickening) knead on cornstarch dusted surface. Be carful it will be HOT. Keep adding cornstarch till no longer sticky. Store in fridge in a sealed container with a damp sponge.

Hey look! My kids are in the circus!!clay, syc circus show 2-08 090
